Are you considering entering the wonderful world of consigning?
Call Vault Raleigh instead...
Here's a few tips that will get you started on the right track:
Don’t bother unless it’s in good condition. If your clothing has flaws like rips, stains, or missing buttons, it’s not ideal for selling, if you can repair it, patch it, or use it as an advantage to making it more stylish, fine, if not then try donating it or giving it away to someone in need. Toys should be clean, unscratched and in working order. No puzzles with missing pieces and PLEASE provide the entire Lego set, not half of The Millennium Falcon. For electronics, they too should be in full working order with batteries. Furniture is a bit different, some antiques are best left as is, while others look better refurbished. Do your homework and know what you have before taking a sander too it, you may be sanding away ALL of it's value.
Know the difference between vintage and out of style. Today's thrift shopper is often looking for something they won't find at Macy's, so be sure the clothes your bring in are stuff people will want, not just an old blazer with shoulder pads you stopped wearing when Miami Vice went of the air.
Don’t get offended if a shop or sale rejects your items. We know our market, and if we don’t think your items will sell, we're probably right. Take a moment and give us a call, or check the list below to find out just what we are looking for, perhaps that blazer won't sell this year, but it could be the hottest vintage item in 2019.
Stick to stores and sales with an established clientele. Although we've only been around for a little under a year, we are well-known for the quality of our stuff and the styles we keep in stock. Let us know what you have and we will be happy to let you know if we are the best choice for the products you are selling.
Focus on specialty shops if you can. Many stores offer to sell to a specific niche. At Vault Raleigh Resale, we have a pretty wide selection, and we know our clients, so check with us first. If we don't think we are a good fit, we will happily let you know of a few places that are, so you don't waste your time or ours.
Brands are where the money is at: Many thrift and consignment shops have guidelines that spell out exactly what brands sell well in their stores. Not surprisingly, the ones with the biggest name recognition are top of the must-have list at consignment shops. Take a look at the list on the right for "Brands we Love" Get everything in writing. Be sure the place you end up bringing in your items to sell provides you with all the right paperwork, gets a copy of your ID and follows all the proper policies and procedures. There are some "shaddy" operations out there that don't care were you got your stuff, and do you think they will offer you the best and most honest service?
