Shop Smart, Shop Resale
Here's a few tips on how to shop consignment when your hunting for a bargain or treasure you wouldn't normally find at a department store:
Make a list before you go: Get clothing and shoe sizes, favorite brands, and colors. If your looking for a piece of furniture, make sure you know the dimensions of the space you plan on putting it. If your looking for a specific piece of electronic equipment, find out what the brand, make and model are your hunting for at Vault Raleigh Resale. If you can't find it, ask. We have an extensive list of vendors we could reach out to and ask around.
Don't just shop for today. You never know what you might run into at Vault Raleigh resale, so even though your shopping for swimsuits, you may see the perfect Halloween costume. Always keep an open mind when shopping at a thrift store or consignment shop, because you might find a treasure you weren't even planning on. Also, many times our consignors are clearing out their Fall clothing in the Spring, so even though it's 100 degrees outside, you may want to pick up that coat for your son so he is stylin' next year.
ALWAYS check the sale bin and find out the best days to come in. Many times, we might be trying to clear out a specific area for new inventory. We usually do this several times a month. Ask when we plan on doing it the next time and you may find yourself planning a second trip in a week or so to see what other amazing bargains you can find.
Don't plan to come in for a minute. When your "Thrift shopping" you need to think of yourself as an archaeologist or treasure hunter. You may need to dig or move a few things around. Bring a shovel and get ready to start digging for gold.
Bring your own shopping bag. We don't have room for carts, and may not have a bag for you, so be sure to bring your own tote bag so you can fill up on everything you need.
Plan your trips around the seasons: Think like everyday people. What do you do in the spring or beginning of the year, YOU CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET! This is often the best time to go thrift shopping because the bounty can be quite extraordinary. Now, that doesn't mean the deals aren't there any other time, but ALWAYS plan an extra trip during these times of the year. Also, check with the community near the shop your planning on going to. Often, they will have community Yard Sales and clean up days. This is a great time to come as many people get the "bug" and start cleaning out the garage, closets, cabinets and even the kitchen. Anyone looking for a Cuisinart?
Go often and at different times of the day/week. If you really want to find the best deals and bargains, go often. You can walk in one day and find a few things you like, and come back tomorrow and see the find of a lifetime. That's the true secret to success.
